Hiccup Class in Chengdu
I joined Hiccup Class (嗨咖同学会), a coffee classmates club in Chengdu, for a lively community event with stations for espresso and pour-over. What made this one special was not only the coffee: it was the first time I brought my mom and taught her how to make coffee herself.
We spent most of the afternoon at the brew table. I walked her through the basics of pour-over, from setting up the dripper and filter to pouring with the gooseneck kettle and watching the bed bloom. She stayed focused the whole way, asking questions and watching the drawdown, and it felt different to share coffee as something we could make together rather than only drink.
Between stations, the room had the easy energy of people who care about coffee without taking themselves too seriously. I am glad Chengdu gave us this afternoon, and even more glad that my mom’s first hands-on coffee lesson happened here.
